Our Silicon Carbide specifications are designed for high-end industrial engineering. The outer steel pipe is typically heavy-walled carbon steel or high-grade stainless steel to provide the necessary pressure rating. We offer SiC liners in thicknesses ranging from 5mm to 30mm. One of the key advantages of SiC is its ability to be cast into complex monolithic shapes, which minimizes the number of joints in the pipeline. We provide various connection methods, including fixed flanges, loose flanges, and specialized victaulic couplings. Every SiC pipe is tested for concentricity and surface roughness (Ra). We also perform dye penetrant testing to ensure the ceramic liner is free of micro-cracks. Our factory can produce SiC pipes in lengths up to 3 meters per section, significantly reducing the installation time for long-distance slurry lines.
Industrial Applications
Silicon Carbide lined pipes are essential in the Desulfurization (FGD) Systems of coal-fired power plants, where they handle abrasive limestone slurries and corrosive flue gases. In the Chemical Industry, SiC is the material of choice for transporting concentrated acids, alkalis, and organic solvents at elevated temperatures. Mining and Metallurgy companies use SiC pipes for hydrocyclone feeds and mineral separation processes where fine, hard particles would quickly erode other ceramics. The Solar and Semiconductor industries utilize SiC for its high purity and resistance to metallic contamination. Furthermore, the Paper and Pulp industry uses SiC liners in high-consistency cleaners to resist the abrasive sand found in recycled fiber. Because of its incredible thermal conductivity, SiC is also used in Heat Exchangers and high-temperature kilns where heat must be transferred efficiently through a wear-resistant wall. If your application involves temperatures over 300°C or highly corrosive chemicals combined with abrasion, SiC is the only logical choice.
Manufacturing Advantages
- Ultimate Hardness: Second only to diamond and boron carbide, providing unmatched resistance to sliding abrasion.
- Exceptional Heat Transfer: High thermal conductivity makes it ideal for applications requiring temperature regulation.
- Zero Corrosion: Resistant to almost all known chemicals, making it the most stable liner for mixed-media transport.
- Low Coefficient of Friction: The smooth internal bore prevents material plugging and significantly lowers energy consumption for pumps.
- High Temperature Performance: Maintains structural strength and hardness at temperatures that would melt or soften steel and other ceramics.
- Thin Wall Capability: Due to its high strength, we can often use thinner SiC liners to achieve the same protection as thicker alumina, saving weight and space.
