Self Propagating Ceramic Composite Pipe

-- Steady & Reliable Manufacturer --

Introduction

Jiangsu Jianghe is a specialized manufacturer of self-propagating ceramic composite pipes, also known as SHS (Self-propagating High-temperature Synthesis) pipes. This unique product is manufactured using a centrifugal thermit process, where a mixture of iron oxide and aluminum powder is ignited inside a spinning steel pipe. The resulting exothermic reaction reaches temperatures over 2000°C, melting the materials and forming a dense layer of corundum (alumina) ceramic that is metallurgically bonded to the inner steel wall. As a factory with high-capacity centrifugal equipment, we produce these pipes to provide an incredibly durable, one-piece ceramic lining that is part of the pipe itself. Unlike tiled or sleeved pipes, the SHS ceramic layer is extremely thin (usually 3-6mm) but incredibly hard and tightly bonded to the steel. This makes the pipe much lighter and easier to handle than traditional ceramic-lined pipes while still providing exceptional wear and heat resistance. We understand that for many B2B applications, such as coal powder transport, the weight of the pipeline is a major concern for the supporting structures. Our self-propagating pipes solve this by offering "ceramic performance" at a weight similar to standard steel. Choosing our SHS pipes ensures you get a high-quality, cost-effective solution for large-scale pneumatic conveying and slurry transport projects, backed by our rigorous manufacturing standards and quality control.

The specifications of our self-propagating ceramic pipes are unique due to the centrifugal synthesis process. The resulting pipe consists of three distinct layers: the outer structural steel layer, a transition layer of iron-aluminum alloy, and the inner corundum ceramic layer. This transition layer is the key to the pipe's success, as it provides a metallurgical bond that is much stronger than any chemical adhesive. We offer these pipes in diameters from DN50 up to DN800, with total lengths up to 3000mm. The ceramic layer is typically 3mm to 6mm thick, providing a Mohs hardness of 9. Because the ceramic is formed at such high temperatures, the pipe possesses excellent thermal shock resistance and can operate continuously at temperatures up to 900°C. The internal surface is naturally smooth with a low friction coefficient, helping to maintain high flow velocities. We provide comprehensive technical data for every batch, including hardness testing and bond strength verification. The steel shell can be customized to various wall thicknesses to meet specific pressure requirements. Every SHS pipe is inspected for concentricity and lining uniformity, ensuring a consistent wear barrier throughout the entire length of the pipe.

Industrial Applications

Self-propagating ceramic composite pipes are the standard choice for Pneumatic Conveying of Coal Powder in power plants and steel mills. Their lightweight nature makes them ideal for overhead pipeline systems where support weight is limited. In the Mining Industry, they are used for slurry transport and tailings disposal where the material is fine and abrasive. Metallurgical Plants use SHS pipes for transporting abrasive dust and slag in high-temperature zones. The Chemical Industry utilizes these pipes for conveying abrasive powders and granules in various processing systems. They are also found in Cement Plants for transporting raw meal and coal dust. Because of their excellent heat resistance, they are frequently used as Burner Pipes and in other high-heat zones of industrial furnaces. Additionally, they are used in Environmental Engineering for waste-to-energy plant ash lines. Their combination of thin-wall design, lightweight construction, and extreme hardness makes them a versatile solution for any facility that needs to transport abrasive materials at high speeds over long distances without the weight penalty of traditional heavy-lined pipes.

Manufacturing Advantages

  • Metallurgical Bond: The ceramic is fused to the steel, ensuring it will never peel or flake off even under high vibration.
  • Lightweight Design: Offers extreme wear resistance without adding significant weight to the pipeline system.
  • High Temperature Resistance: Capable of continuous operation in environments up to 900°C without loss of integrity.
  • Seamless Construction: The centrifugal process creates a continuous, smooth ceramic layer with no joints or gaps.
  • Excellent Thermal Shock Resistance: Can handle rapid temperature changes better than most adhesive-bonded ceramic pipes.
  • Superior Cost-Benefit Ratio: Provides high-level wear protection at a very competitive price point for large projects.
